YAR'ADUA VERSITY EMBARKED STRIKE IN KATSINA

The academic Staff union of Universities of the Umaru musa Yar’adua University katsina state has commenced a two week warning strike to actualise their demand for increase in salary.
The Chairman of the union,comrade Usman Abdullahi stated this while addressing a press conference in katsina.
Comrade Usman abdullahi said upto now the state government has refused to pay adequate attention to their demand which compelled the union to commence the warning strike today.
He said the union resolved to pursue for the full implementation of ASUU and FGN agreement in the instutition.
Comrade Usman abdullahi said going by the terms of employement between the state government and the member of the union as well as the benchmark for establishing a university in Nigeria as approved by the federal government, the union has categorically rejected the persistence of the state government to partially and unilaterally implement the FGN and ASUU agreement without recourse to laws of katsina state that was tantamount to the breach of the employement contract and violation of the laws of katsina state.
Comrade Usman Abdullahi called on the state government to fully implement the said agreement effective from july 2009.
All efforts to get the special adviser to the governor on Higher Education, Alh Adamu Mato Zango who was sighted by the reporters refused to comment, who later use the backdoor of his office and left the reporters stranded only to be told by the public Relation Officer that the adviser will invite them later for briefing on the state government’s position on the strike action.
